Amber’s First Big Hike Back: Darwin’s Revenge at Warrior’s Path State Park

Hi friends, it’s Amber!
I’ve got some big news — I finally got to go on my first real hike since I got super sick a couple months ago. And when I say sick, I mean really sick. I had to stay at the doggie hospital for DAYS, go back to the dogtor over and over, and I even had a weird little tube in my neck so Mama could feed me when I didn’t want to eat. I wasn’t thrilled about it, but it helped me get stronger… and now I’m feeling almost like my old hiking self again.

Mama says I’m not all the way back yet, so she kept me on short walks around the property for a while. We even did a tiny walk at a local school on a pretty day, which was fun — but I missed the woods. I missed the smells. I missed the trails. I missed being a PittieGoHike girl.

And then yesterday… it finally happened.

Mama loaded me up and took me to one of my favorite places: Warrior’s Path State Park. And not just anywhere in the park — we went straight to the Darwin’s Revenge trail. It wasn’t one of our long adventure days, but it was exactly what my heart needed.

The weather was perfect (even the little bit of rain felt nice on my fur). The trail smelled brand new after being away so long. I saw a chipmunk, a bunch of squirrels, and even a deer! The trail was muddy in spots, but you know I didn’t care. And the BEST part? I got to swim in the lake again. I love swimming more than treats… okay, maybe not more, but close.

There are a couple places on Darwin’s Revenge where you can choose the “easy” or “hard” path. And guess what?
I chose HARD every single time. I wanted Mama to see that I’m ready to get back to our real adventures — not just the short warm‑up walks.

By the time we finished, I was a little tired… but don’t tell Mama. I’m pretty sure it was only because I played with my little brother Davy before we left.

It felt so good to be back on the trail. I’ve missed this life. I’ve missed YOU. And I can’t wait to keep getting stronger so we can explore all our favorite places again.

Love,
Amber
