David Crockett Birthplace Historic Site: A River Adventure I’ll Never Forget 🐾

This hike happened a few years ago, before Hurricane Helene came roaring through and changed everything. Back then, Mama and I explored the David Crockett Birthplace Historic Site—fields, woods, critters, and my favorite river, the No-luck-chucky. I splashed, sniffed, and soaked up every bit of history and mud I could find.

We followed trails past chipmunks and deer, wandered through the woods, and found tiny buildings that showed how David Crockett lived. Mama said he was a Congressman and “King of the Front Tear.” I didn’t know what that meant, but it sounded brave. I met sheep and donkeys, got muddy in the river, and got cleaned off like a soggy biscuit. It was perfect.

But now? The river got angry. Hurricane Helene hit hard, and the whole park is closed. The trails, the farm buildings, even the riverbanks—they’ll have to be rebuilt from scratch. Mama says it’ll take a long time, and when I finally get to go back, it won’t look the same.

I’m sad. Really sad. That place was part of my story. But I’m holding onto the memories—of the chipmunks, the river, and the way the wind felt on my ears. One day, I’ll go back. And I’ll make new memories, even if the old ones are buried under the mud.
