A Spring Walk at the Miller Farmstead

Hi friends, it’s Amber! Mama and I headed up to the Miller Farmstead at Roan Mountain to enjoy one of our favorite springtime walks. The trail was full of sunshine, wildflowers, and all the good sniffs a pittie girl could ask for. I spotted squirrels, a chipmunk, and even a few birds who definitely thought they were the bosses of the trail.
As we wandered, we found the little ponds tucked behind the barn — one of my favorite places to splash around. I was already imagining the cool water on my paws.

Just as we were exploring, a friendly park ranger stopped to chat with Mama. She told us something important: dogs are no longer allowed at the Miller Farmstead. She was kind and apologetic, and Mama thanked her for letting us know. I was a little disappointed — no pond splashing for me this time — but rules are rules, and we always want to be respectful of the places we love.

Since the Farmstead was off-limits for pups now, Mama took me to one of my other favorite spots: Rat Branch. The creek there is perfect for wading, splashing, and cooling off after a warm walk. I made up for my missed pond time with extra creek zoomies and lots of happy tail wags.

Even though I can’t explore the Farmstead anymore, Mama and I will still enjoy the trails around Roan Mountain. There’s always something new to see, smell, and appreciate — and plenty of dog‑friendly places nearby where I can splash to my heart’s content.
