🐾 Dog‑Friendly Adventure at Rocky Fork State Park: Amber’s Return to Her Favorite Creek

It’s been YEARS, y’all. Truly. Mama has not taken me to my favorite creek in forever. Not totally her fault — there was that big hurry‑cane that messed up Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park (we just call it Rocky Fork). She didn’t want to get in the way of the clean‑up crews, and she said the trails were probably full of downed trees.

But guess what? We finally went back this week!

Rocky Fork has always been one of my very favorite places to hike in East Tennessee. There are so many good smells, and there’s a big, cold creek that Mama lets me splash in — and y’all know that’s my specialty.

We started up the main trail, and there were lots of people at first. But the farther we went, the quieter it got. The woods were beautiful and peaceful, and I heard critters rustling everywhere. I sniffed where deer and raccoons had crossed, watched squirrels and chipmunks run around, and listened to all kinds of birds. Mama even found a bear paw print on the trail! (We did not see the bear, which Mama says is a good thing.)

We crossed about twelve bridges (maybe eleven — Mama lost count and I don’t have that many paws), and we spotted a huge waterfall way off in the woods across the creek. I wanted to keep going, but Mama said we had to turn around. We’d only gone about 2.5 miles, but she said it would be five miles by the time we got back to the car — and that’s the farthest I’ve hiked since I was so sick a few months ago.

I tried to tell her I’m all better now and can go and go and go, but she didn’t listen.

At least I got to splash in the creek several more times on the way back.

All in all, it was a really good day on one of my favorite dog‑friendly trails in East Tennessee. Mama says we’ll be back soon to go farther or try a different trail. I can’t wait.

~~Love, Amber
